Books Review: Appealed by Emma Chase

Appealed (The Legal Briefs Series #3)
by Emma Chase
Genre: Contemporary Romance

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate - and prized - parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Christian Louboutins.

Brent has never let the loss of his leg in a childhood accident affect his ability to lead a fulfilling life. He sets high goals–and then he reaches them.

And now he has his sights set on Kennedy.

**
When Kennedy looks at Brent Mason, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell.

She’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore - she’s a DC prosecutor with a long winning streak behind her. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case and she thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out that way.

Because every fiery exchange has her wondering if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. Each argument and objection only makes him want her more. In the end, Brent and Kennedy may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.

"What did you do to your eyes?"
"They're called contact lenses."
"Well, take them out. I don't like them. Your real eyes are incredible."
Breathtaking, actually - deep, warm brown with flecks of gold. I'd know Kennedy's eyes anywhere.
"What'd you do to your face?"
I grew a beard.
"Well ungrow it. It looks like a vagina from a 1970s porn film."

Appealed is an entertaining read, as you can see on the quote above, with lots of funny moments. I enjoyed the overall plot/idea and Brent and Kennedy's sarcasm. They are a funny, adorable and steamy duo - but that's it. The book starts strong but I found myself getting bored the more chapters I read. The plot is a bit predictable and I found myself losing interest while reading - don't get me wrong, I'm just a picky romance reader. Not even the hot (very hot!) sex scenes could help me 'through' it.

Brent is definitely a catch; he's all male, smart, dominant and a go-getter. My kind of man. His missing leg never hindered his ego or his conquests. I enjoyed his pov (the book is written in his point of view) and being able to get a glimpse of his inner angst - afraid to settle down.
Kennedy is the same. After getting her heart broken as teenager and experience first hand how mean teenagers can be, she takes off and leaves her family, friends and her best friend, Brent, behind.

Those two have some very sweet and romantic moments that makes it clear to readers that they're meant to be together. They deserve each other and it was nice to read how both overcame their past and learned how to forgive, forget and start over.

Brent . . . This is real. Tell me this is real."
"It's real. This is so real I can't stop shaking."

Appealed by Emma Chase is a fun, lighthearted romance with two witty characters that like to dish out, stand their ground, but also know that they're meant for each other - that they're good for each other.
For me, personally, it was an okay read. I like it edgier, more intense, more surprises, more from everything that makes my heart beat frantically and even skips a beat. But if you're looking for a light romance to end your day then Appealed is definietely for you.
