Review: Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Every Last Breath (The Dark Elements, bk 3)
by Jennifer Armentrout
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance

Some loves will last 'til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

His mouth was hot against my damp brow. "I want an eternity of mornings like this." He dropped a kiss next to my ear. "An eternity."

LOVE, love, loved the conclusion to this awesome series Jennifer Armentrout created. Could I be any happier? Nope! She made me a happy bookworm with the ending she created. Did I root for the right (in my opinion he's the right one) guy? Yes I did and I was squealing out loud when I read for whom Layla decided.

It's hard to write a review for the last book in a trilogy without giving away any spoilers, but I'll try my best.

" I don't think you understand what it means when a [...] falls in love, Layla. It doesn't go away. It doesn't fade, even if we want it to. We love until death."

He made my heart skip a beat, he truly did. I loved him and was happy my gut feeling told me right from the very first line when meeting him in book 1 that he's the one.

Jennifer poured some serious love in this book - I could feel it, I could believe it - without slimming down on the plot itself. I loved to read what was going to happen next, to get the full story of Layla's heritage, her mother and what she was destined to do. Not to mention the humor I came to love so much in Jennifer's books.

Layla herself changed quite some bit in the last book; finally knowing who and what she is made her stronger, confident and it was great to see. She felt lost her whole life never knowing, never really belonging anywhere and it was time she deserved to experience her very own happiness, a place where she belongs!

"In that kiss, I could feel our love for another, our acceptance of each other. It was like taking all our hopes and dreams and rolling them up into one kiss."

If you are worried about a heavy love triangle in this trilogy, please don't. It's quite tame and Layla knows and decides real quick for whom her heart beats. Don't let this fact keep you from picking up this series.
I'm sad this trilogy came to an end but am happy Jennifer created another memorable series with characters I dearly loved and adored - including the side-characters!

"And I love you," he said. "With every breath I take, I will always love you."

Series in order:

(it's not necessary to read the novella, Bitter Sweet Love, beforehand)
