Her breathless kiss haunts him...
Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.

His slow, hot touch is irresistible...
Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It's rumored that no one can tempt Bowen's hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.

No deed is too wicked for her seduction...
If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul—or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?

"Move forward," he said, grating the words. He was breathing heavily right over her ear.

"No way. Kind of between a scorpion and a hard place here."

Oh Bowen, I loved his book. We briefly met Bowen in book one, A Hunger Like No Other, and learned that he lost his mate, living ever since a miserable life. He isn't the strong werewolf he used to be. He's bitter and there's no cure to fill the void in his aching broken heart...until he heard of this year's prize when winning the Hei.

He has only one goal: win this competition, kill everything and everyone who stands in his way and the prize.

The prize would help heal his broken heart, it would give his life purpose again, it would give him his mate back - he was never so determined to win.

Unfortunately he has some great competition, one of them is the pretty witch, Mariketa. She's supposed to become one of the most powerful witches when reaching immortality and in order to keep herself and her coven safe - fulfilling the prophecy - she cloaked her appearance so no male can guide her off her destined path. Well that is until she sets eyes on Bowen and he discovers what's hidden behind her cloak.

While both, she and Bowen, try their best to win points, coming closer to the grand prize, they cross paths and every time he feels a little more bewitched. Seeming not to be able to keep her off his mind and continuously telling his body it's so wrong to desire her, he's losing his inner battle. He lost his mate and the thought of betraying her by lusting over a little witch is killing him.

"You actually think to play me?"
"Why do you assume I'm working spells?"
"For one hundred and eighty years Iv'e no' touched another. (. . .) Have never even given a woman a second look. But now I canna seem to keep my hands off a slip of a witch," ..."A witch who has me feeling like I'll die if I doona find out what it'd be like to kiss her."

Sadly, Mari isn't using any spells and what they feel is real, confusing but real, and it consumes both of them.

"His kiss was hard and heated as he claimed her mouth. And she was more than ready to match his need."

Ooook, lets take a breather. This book wasn't as steamy as the others BUT it was full of surprises with another strong plot and I loved it. I was thrilled how at the end the pieces fit together, how everything made sense and I couldn't have been happier for Bowen - he truly deserved it. Kresley Cole put some serious twists and turns in this book (especially at the end) and that's what I love about this series, it's full of surprises, never seems to stop amazing me, with main and secondary characters you can't but fall in love with. Definitely another hit this book!

***NOTE: As said before, you don't have to read the other books beforehand but I'd highly suggest you do, just so you don't have question marks in your head while reading book #3. I hate to miss out on small details -whether it's about the characters or the Lore world itself - thus, I'll read them all in order. ***
