"Long ago - and who knows how much time has toiled past- the Vampire Horde trapped him in these catacombs deep beneath Paris. He stands chained against a rock, pinned at two places on each limb and once around his neck. Before him - an opening into hell that spews fire.
Here he waits and suffers, offered to a column of fire that may weaken but is never-ending - never-ending, just like his life."
It's no secret that I'm a huge paranormal fan and every second or at least third book that I'm reviewing must be a paranormal, otherwise I suffer from withdrawals. Before A Hunger Like No Other I was a Cole-virgin; yup, I've never read one of her books (shame on me!!). But oh boy could I pinch myself for waiting this long.
This book with its well plotted story, funny characters, steamy scenes truly blew my mind. I was hooked after just a few pages.
Cole has a brilliant talent to combine all necessary ingredients to write a bestselling book. I was in blogger-heaven by how incredible she crafted this book - beginning by telling tales of old folklore, developing a love story that makes your toe curls, to combining the past and presents in hilarious way. Overall, this book was perfect and I couldn't have picked a better book to get to know Mrs. Cole's writing.
When a very old Scottish Lykae King (also known as werewolf) could finally escape after decades of torture - thanks to sensing his mate - nothing and no one would come between him and her. Lachlain waited nine hundred years to finally find his mate and now that she's so close some chains won't stop him.
I didn't know whether I should laugh or fan myself because the hero is super old-school and his mate is a young vampire mix, feisty, much younger and so NOT what he expected her to be. So to say these two had some difficulties would be the understatement of the year. Thrown into a modern time, Lachlain was somewhat lost and didn't know what to do or think....of this new culture, language and his mate. Add to it his Scottish accent and manners I was a goners, book friends. He was hilarious and such a hottie!!
"Then to the closet to examine her strange clothes, so many of them red in color, so many of them lacking in coverage. The vampire would not be leaving this room in some of them."
Not only did Emmaline not know that she got claimed as mate she also had a much bigger problem: pure evil was after her! Between escaping and avoiding danger, she and Lachlain grew closer, desire was blooming and both felt the sparks fly - me too. I can honestly say this is one of the hottest paranormal book I've ever read, which is not lacking on plot.
If you've never read a paranormal romance because the paranormal factor hindered you, try out this series; it'll make your romance heart scream with joy. You'll find everything what you enjoy in a normal romance book: love, steam, strong alpha, tough female and a great developed plot.
You know a book is brilliant when you read so fast that you forget to put sticky-notes on pages to highlight your favorite quotes/moments - I was so engaged in this story, my world around faded away....
