Book Review: RAZE by Tillie Cole - just wow!

RAZE (standalone)
by Tillie Cole
Genre: Dark Contemporary Romance

TO TAKE BACK LIFE, ONE MUST FIRST FACE DEATH…
One man stripped of his freedom, his morals… his life.
Conditioned in captivity to maim, to kill and to slaughter, prisoner 818 becomes an unremorseful, unrivaled and unstoppable fighter in the ring. Violence is all he knows. Death and brutality are the masters of his fate.
After years of incarceration in an underground hell, only one thought occupies his mind: revenge… bloody, slow and violent revenge.

Revenge on the man who lied.
Revenge on the man who wronged him.

Revenge on the man who condemned him and turned him into… this: a rage-fueled killing machine. A monster void of humanity; a monster filled with hate.

And no one will stand in the way of getting what he wants.

One woman stripped of her freedom, her morals… her life.

Kisa Volkova is the only daughter of Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, head of the infamous ‘Red’ bosses of New York's Russian Bratva. Her life is protected. In reality, it’s a virtual prison. Her father’s savage treatment of his rivals and his lucrative and coveted underground gambling ring—The Dungeon—ensures too many enemies lurk at their door.

She dreams to be set free.

Kisa has known only cruelty and loss in her short life. As manager of her father’s death match enterprise, only grief and pain fill her days. Her mafiya boss father, in her world, rules absolute. And her fiancé, Alik Durov, is no better: The Dungeon’s five-time champion, a stone-cold killer, the treasured son of her father’s best friend, and her very own—and much resented—personal guard. Unrivaled in both strength and social standing, Alik controls every facet of Kisa’s life, dominates her every move; keeps her subdued and dead inside… then one night changes everything.

While working for her church—the only reprieve in her constant surveillance—Kisa stumbles across a tattooed, scarred, but stunningly beautiful homeless man on the streets. Something about him stirs feelings deep within her; familiar yet impossibly forbidden desires. He doesn’t talk. Doesn’t communicate with anyone. He’s a man beyond saving, and a man she must quickly forget… for both their sakes.

But when days later, out of the blue and to her complete surprise, he’s announced as the replacement fighter in The Dungeon, Kisa knows she’s in a whole lot of trouble. He’s built, ripped and lethally unforgiving to his opponents, leaving fear in his wake and the look of death in his eyes.

Kisa becomes obsessed with him. Yearns for him. Craves his touch. Needs to possess this mysterious man...

… this man they call Raze.

"They were always meant to be together, one boy and one girl, two hearts split into two, sent to far-off lands on their own."

I couldn't have picked a better book to start 2015 with than Tillie Coles new release RAZE. With Raze I popped my over-due Tillie cherry - yup, I haven't read her previous books yet, silly me, but I'm very determined to catch up on them. Now to the book:

The blurb gives you a very good idea what you'll get when starting this book. It's about revenge; raw, brutal revenge on the man who stripped Raze and Kisa off everything - everything they loved and cherished - and their journey to find back to each other. This book is dark, yes, but I'd define it as grayish but I'm a tough cookie so for you it might be a bit darker.

"From now on, you'll be known as fighter 818, and if you wan to live, you'll learn how to fight and how to survive here, in hell."
And 818 did.
With the passage of time, 818 became unrivaled.
818 became death.
A. Fucking.Stone.Cold.Killer.

His story is brutal, raw, merciless - just like him - and it will give you the creeps and goosebumps all over, while his past, the past they stripped from him will break your heart while reading; it makes you want to hug him and shoot everyone who caused him pain and sorrow. Tillie perfectly captured the cruel conditions which Raze was stuck in (mentally as physical), letting me as a reader inside Raze's mind, heart, and soul. I was captivated by this man, his story, his braveness from page one! A young, loving man was morphed into a brutal, most dangerous fighter alive...not knowing who he is or where he belongs.

"The pain that I felt like fire raging through my body every time I tried to remember anything from my life before this place."

Kisa...she had one true love. A boy that meant the world to her, a boy who was her world until he got ripped out of her life from one day of the other. Since then she was never the same again. Still mourning the 'death' of her true love. Now she lived a daily nightmare being the fiance to Alik, The Butcher. A man, a substitute but no comparison to the boy she once lost. He's nothing like her Luka and never will...no one could ever take his place but she has to hide it. She can't still show after 12yrs how this loss effects her. Thus, she plays the perfect Bratva wife...even if it means to endure all of Alik's cruelness.

"...I stared at my reflection in the gold-plated ornate mirror. I hardly recognized the girl before me anymore. She got lost somewhere over the years, hiding away, running for her life. Her blue eyes were dead... ."

Her eyes were dead until a homeless man saved her one night...a homeless guy that was huge, broadly-build and killed her attacker without breaking a sweat. Something intrigued her, something made her follow him, something tugged inside her heart and gut, something told her she needs to get to know this man. And thank goodness she did!!

Even though this story has a pretty intense fighter theme, Tillie managed that the heart-wrenching, beautiful and one in a kind love story between Kisa and Luka is the focus of it all. I was constantly aawwing, swooning, feeling - gosh so much feels going on - that I was on edge. The last 15 percent of the book I thought my heart jumps out of my rip cage.

It was intense.
It was heartbreaking.
It was gut-wrenching.
It was beautiful.
It was brilliant.
It was everything I wished for.

With Raze,Tillie razed herself right onto my 'All time favorite' shelf and into my blogger heart. I loved this story heard. It was original (at least for me) and not ones did my interest or attention waver. I was hooked bad and she got all the check marks from me which make a novel noteworthy. I can't recommend this book enough, ladies. If you're looking for  a gritty, intense, raw but beautiful and sensational love story between two soul mates then grab this book now!!! Their love story made my heart melt hard and RAZE.

"Mama said God placed a piece of my eye within his so we would always know we shared one soul."

"Whatever our souls are made of - " "His and mine are the same."
