*The Pact is a standalone, contemporary adult romance*
It all started with a pinky swear…
Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.
Beautiful, funny and an ambitious businesswoman (with one hell of an ass), Stephanie Robson is one of Linden McGregor’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as he’s known her.
But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.
Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them are in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.
It sounds like fun and games but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.
Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.
The pact is about to change everything.
Her eyes are so blue and wide, like the morning sky, her mouth so perfectly full. I contemplate running my thumb over her lips before I kiss the salt off of them.
I should just do it. I should just fucking do it.
I swallow hard, my throat feeling closed up but I know it’s not from my cold. It’s from want and it’s from fear.
“What are you staring at?” she asks me, her voice shaking slightly.
Just fucking kiss her.
"I'd give her up for you .... I'd give up everything for you."
Fun, sexy, entertaining, refreshing.... these are just a few words that automatically pop into my mind when thinking about Karina Halle's newest contemporary romance, The Pact. This book made my blogger heart beat an extra beat because it was simple yet extraordinary, funny yet serious, romantic but also very steamy - overall, the perfect book for me. The plot seemed kind of simple and I think that's what made this story such a great read; it's a relatable story that makes you smirk, laugh, and wish you'd have a hot Scottish Linden as friend!
"I want to tell her all the filthy things I think about, be real, raw and unfiltered. I want to make her cheeks flush from my dirty mouth and her body with desire."
Stephanie and Linden have been best friends since nine years. With 25 Linden comes up with an idea if both aren't taken/married until their 30 birthday they married each other. Sounds simple and logical among best friends right? I mean my friends and I came up with such a silly idea too - but I've no hot Linden as friend *pouts*.
Their attraction is wee bit off the charts; they both flirt and share everything with another but they're also try to stay calm and play it cool...they're just best friends right?!? But there's been always this little voice telling them it never was just friendship. But how long can you pretend? How long can you avoid the unavoidable?
Their resolve crumbles and a simple truth or dare game during a camping trip is their final catalyst...after that nothing is the same anymore, they're not the same anymore.
"I want her to realize we're both not with the people we should be. And if she already knows that, I want her to know it's not to late. Or is it?"
It's not as easy as they wish it'd be. They could destroy their friendship if it's not working out, they could lose each other and James, yup, James, Stephanie's ex who's also Linden's best friend. All are like the three musketeers. Will friendships get destroyed? Heart and promises broken?
Read for yourself to find out. All I can say is this book, those characters, the whole set-up of this plot made my heart very happy - these are the books I crave and love to read. They're simple but real and connect with you instantly; they're comprehensible.
"It was just a fucking dare. It didn't mean anything. It just meant everything to me."
I loved the emotions in this book it's not just fun and laughter. Their feelings, thoughts, doubts were real and honest, they made me feel and misty-eyed.
"I want to be everything to her. I want to be the best and her only. I want to make her wan me, crave me, yearn for me, all the fucking time. I want her to know what it's like to want and I want to know what's like to be wanted by her."
With The Pact Karina showed us again how versatile she and her writing is and with every new book she succeeds to prove why she's one of my favorite authors out there. It's not easy to stand out in such a competitive industry as the book industry but Karina and her newest release did just that.
