Review: Becoming Calder

BECOMING CALDER (A Sign of Love, #1)
by Mia Sheridan
Genre: Contemporary Romance

There is a place in modern day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place, there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition.

In this place, there is a boy with the body of a god and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.

In this place, there is a girl with the face of an angel and a heart full of courage. To her family, she is the vision of obedient perfection. But she dares to want that which she has been told can never be hers.

Becoming Calder is the story of good versus evil, fear versus bravery, and the truth that the light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places . . . From the beginning of time, to the end of the world.

"... his smile... his smile lit up my world, even from afar."

This was the most innocent, pure, and awe-inspiring love story I've ever read. Nothing in this book was out of place; no words misplaced; no emotions faked, no over the top, or surreal words exchanged. I was moved by this story; a love that's unlike I've ever read or witness. A love that bloomed in the most forbidden place to become a strong Morning Glory; shining through all the evil surrounding them. Mia wrote Becoming Calder unique, one in a kind romance that will touches your heart.

Calder, born into the Acadia society ( you can refer to it as cult mixed with the Amish life-style), is one of the strongest, most loyal and kindest men I've come across in the book world. He's loving, caring and one handsome young man to look at. His life as worker had order: doing his duty, helping his family and community, pleasing the gods, and waiting to get to Elysium (paradise). But his life philosophy and belief changed when he met Eden in a very young age.

According to the leader, Hector (who I wanted to drown several times in the purification water or strangle him), Eden is the key to Elysium and with her becoming his wife on her 18th birthday Acadia will be safe when the great flood will come and cleans the evil from this world. But Eden was just a small girl coming from the outside world and in the years that passed until her birthday, Calder and Eden established a friendship that turned into more....a love so deep and pure that no evil could keep them apart.

But both had to hide the love and bliss they found in each other....

"... her lips parting as her eyes went to my mouth like she had done the other day. Oh Eden, don't do that. Don't let me know you want to be kissed."

"If I have to live in Elysium for eternity with someone I don't love, I thought maybe a kiss from you, even just one, would make it bearable."

I loved reading their hidden little love devotions.

They were simple but meaningful. They were short but yet everlasting. Forbidden but so right.

I don't want to give away too much from the book because you've to experience it; read how their lives are to understand how big their battle is to finally freely love each other.
If you expect a super steamy/smutty story then I've to disappointed you it's not; but it's sinful in its purest form and I loved the fact this book is so different. It's like a fresh breeze reading her book!
It's my first book by Mia and she just made another fan.

As the blurb says this is a story about good and evil, fear versus bravery, fighting for the right thing, and even finally knowing who you are. This book definitely ends up on my all time favorite shelf, and keep in mind this is book one in a two-part series. FINDING EDEN is LIVE and can't be read as a standalone!!

"I feel your lips on mine, too. I taste you. I breathe you. I long for you like I've never longed for anything in my life.

"You're mine, Eden. You always have been, from the very first second I saw you." I nodded. It seemed like the simplest truth the world had ever known.
