by Pepper Winters
Genre: Dark Romance Erotica
Release date: Aug 18, 2014

“I own you. I have the piece of paper to prove it. It’s undeniable and unbreakable. You belong to me until you’ve paid off your debts.”

Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Being the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter.

She is no longer free.

Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an inheritance present on his twenty-ninth birthday. Her life is his until she’s paid off a debt that’s centuries old. He can do what he likes with her—nothing is out of bounds—she has to obey.

There are no rules. Only payments.

"Men like me morphed into predators in sheep's clothing. We preyed on the weak with no apology, and everything landed in our fucking laps."

Give me a second to collect my thoughts because they are scattered all around.... *slowly picks them up, one by one* .... Alright, I'm back! Ok first I've to say this book has Pepper's signature written all over it so you all have nothing to worry about. Her writing was as usually captivating and thrilling, combined with her trademark for dark lyrical deliciousness that created a perfectly braided work that screams dark, sinful, forbidden, but also daring, alluring, and lustful. There was a constant balance between making my heart beat so loud and fast due to the things Nila had to live through, while in the other moment my pulse increased thanks to the sexual tension; the hidden desire and lust that mirrored in Nila and Jethro's eyes and stolen glances.

"Coldness etched his gaze. Aloofness whispered from his postures.
I'd never been so intimidated or so intimately challenged."

Both grew up in wealth, never a moment worrying of wanting or needing anything. Nila, a young successful designer, making her family's name proud, Jethro...well what is he doing. His family is very powerful in trade, having their fingers in everything actual, such as in the Diamond trade. He's the first born Hawk, Nila the first born Weaver - a fact that serves more as a curse than blessing. Even though they share the common family's wealth they couldn't be more different. Nila grew up with love and caresses, Jethro with coldness, dominance, and order.

"Empathy was the downfall of any human. The ability to feel their pain. The nuisance of living their trauma. That inconvenient ability had been beaten out of me as a child. Lesson after lesson until I embraced the cold." ~Jethro

I think you get the picture now who Jethro is.... loyalty, strictness, and merciless- that's what stands for Jethro. He has every intention to fulfill his duty, taking Nila as his toy, to do with her as he pleases just as many before him have done to a Weaver woman. There's NO escaping!

This 'little' book (in Pepper's dimension it's short, considering it's 65K) left me speechless, intrigued, and longing for more. I liked the somewhat historical inspired plot, thrust into modern days society but keeping the traditional rules alive. I'm fully on Nila's side, not being able to wrap my mind about the whole six-hundred year old debt but nevertheless, it didn't hinder my enthusiasm diving or continuing to explore the world of INDEBTED. The more you read the more you'll find out about the debt and Jethro's deviant, infamous family...but you also wish you wouldn't.

I love how Pepper can make me crave and even accept the darkness; the darkness that pours out of her male characters. I know it's so wrong but I, as so many of her other female leads, are drawn to them like moths to the light. She wraps her male characters up in a dark but delicious way that mutes all warning bells. It's just have to touch them, be with them, feel them, inhale them. Of course she's totally screwing with your mind and I bet she's perfectly aware of it and secretly laughs at me now.

"I'd been brought up.... believing I was unique, different, never before created. Turned out, I was never an individual; I was a possession to trade. I was never unique....never free, never whole."

I immediately liked Nila's character; she funny, quirky and on occasion has balls bigger than any man out there. Even in the first book she's undergoing a slight change that strips her free from all she's never allowed herself to feel, think, need or desire...yeah the soft kitten turns into a full-blown lioness and I liked it. Don't think she's gullible, naive even though Jethro tells her so. For me she's just now finding herself after years of sheltering, being under the wings of her protective father and twin brother.

This book will test you, lead you on, mess with your mind, evokes doubts about what's right and wrong and lastly, make you crave for more. Keep in mind this is serial and NOT everything is or will be explained right away! Yes it ends in a cliffhanger -Pepper made no secret about it - that makes you huff in frustration; but it also hooks you because the plot has this uniqueness about it. I can't wait to for more.

"The longer we stood, the further we blurred the lines between debtor and debtee. Weaver and Hawk. In that tiny moment, we were each other's answer to freedom."
