I fell in love with "Love, In English"

by Karina Halle

Blurb:
A standalone, contemporary romance....

He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.
He speaks Spanish. I speak English.
He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.
He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.
He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.
I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.
Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the damn truth.

To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.
Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Spanish charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.
Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.
Something that can never, ever be.
Or so she thinks

"You and I, we were always a memory in the making."

Do you believe in soul-mates? Do you believe there's this one special person out there, just waiting for you to cross his/her path, matching perfectly like a missing piece to your puzzle?

I do believe....

Love makes you crazy; love makes you irrational; love makes you her puppet. Most importantly, love doesn't ask if the timing is right - it just happens and no matter if you fight it or not, love knows when you found your soul-mate; no matter if this makes you a villain or saint.

This book tells the story about two - lonely & unhappy - people that fell in love, which pull was so strong and undeniable that fighting was useless. Timing couldn't have been worse: Vera, young, beautiful and single, meets Mateo, handsome Spaniard, married, and unhappy. Both never expected to fall for another but how can you fight something that feels so right? That makes you feel happy and alive - whole even? You can't and you won't.

This story is about life and finding love...furthermore, how to hold on and preserve this love. How to not give up and stand for what you love. It shows us life isn't always going according plan, nor that it's easy. It's hard, painful, unpredictable and sometimes cruel but if you find your soul-mate it's worth taking the risk and facing the consequences.

No one ever said it's going to be easy....

I rarely give books a higher rating than 5, but with this contemporary romance, Karina's first, she catapulted herself right there. It was simple, but beautifully written; it was real life, written down on 532 pages. Her words were sometimes painful, but nevertheless, true, to the very core and she wrote about life, love, and the unpredictable. I fell for the simplicity of her character's words, actions, to the very gut-wrenching situations they went through. The book was character instead of plot driven and as if Karina put a spell on me I couldn't put it down.

This is not your typically ordinary contemporary romance story which you find so often; it's much more. Its meaning is deeper; the characters and their feelings, hurt, and happiness were more real than what you usually find.

I fell slowly but deeply in love with Love, in English , just as Vera & Mateo did....

I won't spoil this book for you with quotes or details because you need to experience it before you judge Vera or Mateo's actions - don't forget, true love makes you throw your rules over board.

"What is [love] in Spanish?”I was so enthralled by his hypnotic eyes, I could barely remember. “Amore?” He shook his head ever so slightly.“No. Love in Spanish is you.”

Thank you for making me feel, taking me down memory lane, making me realize certain things are/were worth taking a risk. It was bittersweet bliss to read this book <3
