Soul Resurrected by Keri Lake

SOUL RESURRECTED (Sons of Wrath, #2)
By: Keri Lake
Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance/Dark Urban Fantasy

As Wrath’s fiercest son, Logan carries the scars of fifty years spent in the most dreaded prison of the underworld, for a sin he’d kill to keep secret. Enduring decades of gruesome torture has left Logan feared by and detached from others, until a female Alexi’s blood resurrects his soul from death and, with it, the pleasures he’s been denied for so long.
Plagued by shame of her own, Calla is drawn to the ruthless demon, Logan, whose insatiable craving for her touch rouses buried passions and, for once, leaves her feeling desired.
A dark and dangerous evil has been reawakened, however, and when Calla is drawn too close to its breeding grounds, Logan vows to summon the violence of Wrath in order to keep her safe. First, though, Calla must save him from a past riddled with deceit and corruption … but only if she can accept the chilling consequences of unearthing his vilest skeleton.

5 Sinfully Demonic Stars

Whoa, what an epic book!! It was long, yeah, but it was filled with so much steam, action and surprises that it could have had 600pages and I still would have been happy. Wow, I really love love Logan. In book one, Soul Avenged, we got only a small glimpse of his dominant character and therefore, I was super curious what his deal is… and just let me say, his life was no happy pony farm, or filled with happiness and love. Thus, I can only be super thrilled how the second book of The Sons of Wrath series ended. Did I mention it was epic? Or that it’s smokin’ hot, panty melting hot? I had to take breaks in between to calm down lol.

As usual, Lake didn’t hold back on supernatural characters and many (infamous) sups from book one were present in book 2. I highly advise to read book 1, Soul Avenged first, to get to know/become familiar with all the –side-characters and vocabulary. As in book one, Lake provided a glossary and I love this; it makes reading so much easier, especially if the books terms are not common in our world. With Soul Resurrected, lake delivered again a hands-down awesome paranormal book and way more than just a page turner. I really fell in love with her writing and those demons. It’s a faced paced, action packed read that will leave you wanting more.

Now to the story… I won’t give anything away but don’t miss out and get your hands on book 1 –like in ASAP!!!!

Logan…. he’s somewhat a special kind of man
-he doesn’t do or like weakness
-he doesn’t do love
-he doesn’t do fear
-Women? Only trouble, no thanks

His temper is that from a true Wrath Demon and his body as well –SMOKIN’ LADIES!!! Wish some of those hotties would really roam this earth

But Logan is also damaged … he closed himself off, build his walls so high, that no creature could ever harm him again –especially no female. Even his brother can’t crack through to find out what is wrong with him or prey some past details out of him. Only Gavin knows what dark places his brother went to and what pain he suffered.

”I never believed in love. Mostly because love never believed in me enough to break through my shield. Why believe in something that’s never touched you?”

Sigh… the book starts off with a gut-wrenching prologue that made my heart hurt for Logan. Such a misery he endured in his early childhood and life that I wanted to hug him, kiss and squeeze him to make his pain go away.
So when life screws you over, what do you do? You become untouchable and numb.

”Numbness is my shield. My faith. My reality. More real than the idea that love will ever touch a bastard son, like me.”

Yep, Logan is a tough one to crack open… but his fight to stay untouchable, fearless, and strong got swiped out by one innocent girl, Calla.

Calla was everything Logan wasn’t. She was pure, beautiful from the in and outside, and too good for a bastard like him.
We met Calla in book one; she too is an Alexi and as we learn the end of Soul Avenged those two will share a unique and significant bond that will forever change their life.

I was either laughing or swooning while reading this book. Towards the end I was holding my breath and prayed things will turn out good –so yeah I was on edge. But needless to say, I enjoyed this book a lot. I love Logan and of course Gavin. I’m soo curious and excited to read Gavin’s book as well as to find out the stories of his other handsome brothers. I definitely recommend Lake’s Sons of Wrath books of you want to read a great paranormal book, a story that has its twist and turns, and with a load of action and hotness!!

Review for Soul Avenged (Book #1 in this series)

5 - I Have a new Fave Paranormal Author –Stars
It was the first time that I’ve read a book by Keri Lake but I def know it won’t be the last. Soul Avenged rocked; it was honestly one of the best paranormal books I’ve read in a very long time. She created a fast paced read, which was loaded with lots of action and many surprises. I couldn’t read fast enough. Not one page was boring and I was clued to my kindle. She really put everything in this book – demons (hot as hell demon brothers), lycans, hellhounds, Alexi’s, and many others great side-characters. I was overwhelmed by her diversity, as well as how original her story was -LOVED IT!! I’m not easily impressed but Lake create a one in a kind paranormal book. She created unforgettable characters that you can but only fall in love with. Her writing style is vivid and so flawless that it was pure joy to read. Her story development didn’t leave any questions and I loved that she provided at the beginning a glossary with vocabulary; but even if she wouldn’t have, Lake provided every necessary detail to keep her readers hooked.

Let me start by the demon brothers –The Sons of Wrath. OMG, I think Lake created the most handsome, stunning and plain perfect men ever. Demons? Who cares, these brothers are extremely hot and just to die for. In Soul Avenged, we get to know Gavin the most, or let me say he stood out to me the most. He’s loyal, caring and very protecting of the people he cares about and the people who are under his contract. Basically, you can hire this bunch of hot demons if someone did you harm and they help seeking out justice to people who wronged them. Right now, the sons of Wrath are working together with Ayden, an Alexi, to kill of those filthy Lycans (Werewolves) because they are the reason why she became an Alexi in the first place (Alexi’s are soldiers bred to slay lycans).

Ayden is this kick-ass female; a true fighter and strong as hell. At the past she and Gavin were lovers but Ayden wasn’t and still isn’t able to love or care for someone. Gavin is too perfect and she’s just a broken soul without memories of who she was or even is. All she knows and matters is to kill these beasts off; revenging all the families they destroyed, while finding the one and only lycan who ripped her own family apart. All she lived for was to hunt those wolves down, one by one; there was no room for love. Not the eternity love Gavin was looking for in Ayden. She lived a unattached life after escaping the Alexi compound, and especially General Wade, living after her own rules.

But all of Ayden’s hatred and despise toward lycans would change in the night she was about to kill this halfling, (a newly bitten human, waiting of his full transformation to lycan) Kane. When she touched him, she saw some kind of vision. A vision that would change her life and Kane’s fate forever.

So what did Ayden do instead of killing him? She ‘kidnaps’ Kane and uses him as kind of labor-rat, trying to figure out if he’s the key to find the lycan responsible for the slaughter of her and her family.
Right after that, the books actions level increases. Ayden is fighting against the urge to kill Kane every single day until his 7days are up, as well as to ignore the growing desire to rip his clothes off. After the 7th day he’d transform to a full lycan and the kill would be inevitable for Ayden.

I loved Kane, especially towards the end of the book. He became cocky and stood up against Ayden. His smart ass comments and swag where bliss to read, compared to the frightened Kane from the beginning. And damn, did he get hotter and hotter; the more his transformation took place the bigger and more handsome he got. Ayden and Kane’s short but intense 7 days are one roller-coaster and you def won’t leave your kindle until the story is over.

If you love or are looking for a kick-ass paranormal book then I highly recommend Keri Lake’s Soul Avenged. I loved the 3 main characters: Ayden, Kane, and Gavin. Like I wrote, it has everything –action, humor, romance, and lots of awesome paranormal characters. It’s so much more than a page-turner. Lake created a unique story with a flawless plot; a plot that lets you long for more. I finished this book wanting to find out more about Gavin, my fave Son of Wrath, because he deserves so much *sigh. Just read this book, I was too hooked and totally forgot to highlight all my fave quotes *bummer*.

EXCERPT FROM SOUL RESURRECTED

CHAPTER 1

Some lives just weren’t worth the trouble of saving …

The dark room swallowed Logan, as he lay sprawled on his bed—just as he’d been left after ditching his date with death. A stomach-turning sensation of thickened skin and tingles swathed his body, closing in on him, phantom sensations crawling over his flesh that kept him awake. Every five minutes or so, he willed an arm or a leg to move. No go.
Shadows danced across the wall on the occasions that one of the Catatones guarding the mansion passed through the floodlight below his window. He focused on them only because his neck had been propped in that direction and he had no choice. Good thing, though. She had been assigned to watch over him and slept somewhere beyond his periphery, the reminder heating his blood every time her sleepy moan drifted across the room.
The fury could’ve split him right down the middle.
Her blood ran through him—pumping in his veins, feeding his heart, keeping him alive.
Calla’s.
The woman who’d gotten him stabbed with Demortis, the only element capable of taking down a demon, now swam through his body as the only element capable of saving him. Her blood. Pure. Probably the closest he’d ever come to being righteous.
The irony was enough to leave him scratching his own eyeballs out of his head—that is, if he could reach the damn things. Like a bitch slap from the gods, who probably sat around drinking beers over the shit, poking fun at him.
The side effect of returning from the dead?
Feeling like the fucking dead.
Logan tightened his lip, wishing he could kick his own ass for being so stupid. Not like he’d had to save her or anything. Hell, being a demon meant being the exception to human rules.
And being a son of Wrath meant never having to play by any species’ rules.
Yet for some reason, one lodged so deep inside his brain he couldn’t even begin to explain, he’d felt the need to intervene. Not so much for her sake, but because the little prick trying to rape her had taken a jab at the psychopath buried in Logan’s bones. Taunted him.
Then finally tripped his kill-switch.
Yeah, that’s what Logan told himself, anyway, because no other excuse could possibly justify why he couldn’t stir a single muscle in his body for anything having to do with her—Calla. The girl they’d picked up at some underground party, so high on Shine she’d have probably let every one of the brothers have a go at her if they’d been the ravaging bastardly types.
Lucky for her they weren’t.
“Should’ve walked away,” he muttered, his voice the only part of his body he could control.
A zing of pain shot through Logan’s feet, flexing them into an unnatural, paralyzed position. “Ah, shit!” Hadn’t his feet been numb just seconds ago?
Not even forcing his muscles to relax shook the sting away, one like a strike to the level of his bones, as if they shattered with impact.
He held his breath and clenched his teeth while the pain crept up his leg. “Motherfucker!” He spoke past gritted teeth, keeping his voice low to keep from rousing his babysitter, but damn, his back arched like one of those tetanus-infected bastards, his eyes squinting so hard they could’ve popped backward into his brain.
Black smoke curled behind his lids, and a deep laughter mocked him as the agony reached his spine. Trembling in the bed, Logan clamped his mouth shut and allowed the convulsions to run through him.
In silence.
He’d known pain—gut-turning, put-me-out-of-my-fucking-misery pain. Nothing compared to what wracked him at that moment, as if nightmares could invade the body and inflict injury. The burn, like molten lava oozing in his veins, seeped into his every cell, searing him from the inside. Sweat trickled down his temple at the same time as a chill burst deep inside his bones and swept through his limbs, leaving behind a wake of nausea.
That black smoke carried the familiar sensation he’d felt once or twice in his life—from the quick witted son of a bitch that brought the toughest demon males to their knees: absolute death. Stygius. The place in the underworld from where no soul ever returned.
With shallow panting breaths, he allowed the blackness worming its way into his mind to take over as something dark and wicked laid claim.
All Logan could do was let it take him.
