ARC GIVEN IN EXCHANGE FOR HONEST REVIEW
I did like Burn but didn’t love it, that’s why the 3 star rating. I fell in love with Eric when reading Spark and I loved the story of Velaney and him. It was entertaining, heart-breaking, gritty, and steamy; but in Burn it was a bit too much drama and too many things happened at ones. I’ve to say I’m no big fan of overly dramatic things or characters in a book – it needs to fit in the plot, and some things in Burn didn’t fit, in my opinion. Please remember, just because I didn’t love this book doesn’t mean it’s nothing for you – I know many of you loved Burn as much as I loved Spark so find out for yourself. There were many things I liked in Burn though; they made me swoon and warmed my heart.
Eric *sigh* he was still this super sweetheart in Burn and I effing love his characters. He’s a real gentleman and treated Velaney like a princess. I felt so bad for him how she treated him in certain situations that I possessively took his side in the book. In Burn we learn about Eric’s past and hidden problems; the things he tried to bury deep down and not share with anyone. Yes, he fought and still fights those demons and it explains certain characteristics towards Velaney – why he’s so overprotective and caring –but to the same time I couldn’t really connect to it. But oh boy, he’s kinky too… I loved the steamy scenes in Burn, it really makes your heart race and envy Velaney lol. Like I said, I love him and he said the sweetest and most adorable things to her… I mean, even a blind person would have seen that he’s madly and deeply in love with Velaney!! …But unfortunately she didn’t sometimes and it drove me nuts!
“I wanted you since the first time I met you … it doesn’t matter where we end up as long as we are together …”
“The way I feel for Velaney is something I can’t even explain. I can’t express it in words. … I wanted to fall in love with you, Velaney. And I did. I always have.”
Velaney, this poor girl thought all her nightmares were over, but nope, they continued. So many things and happened in this book that I just thought ‘Wow, I don’t know how she can even move on…’ but well, she did. She was strong and fought against the obstacles that got put in her way, I really admired her for that. She was the bigger person in the story and not just a puppet of her past – she wanted to control her life and not let others control it. Despite that Aiden and now her mother were in the picture, Velaney stood her ground and made the right choices. There were many critical scenes in the book that made me hold my breath and I really enjoyed that.
What bothered me the most were her reactions and actions towards Eric; it was too over the top and I couldn’t connect with it. I felt so bad for him and really wanted to slap her. So many things were not logical and I thought many times if she’s for real now. She acted childish and pushed the one person away- that truly would do anything for her without having a doubt- without having a good reason to; yes I was a bit annoyed from her. She acted irrational and too over-dramatic. She should have never doubted or second-guessed Eric especially after everything he said and did for her. He was basically a love sick puppy – a hot as hell, love sick puppy to be clear ;)
So many things happened in Burn that it was a bit too much –too many events thrown in that when I finished the book I had lots questions left. Certain things were unbelievable and I wished for more plot development. Yes, the book was filled with lots of love and steamy moments but those awesome moments got overweight by the drama. The book is written well though-Brooke did a great writing job. It’s a fast paced read and I enjoyed it, but couldn’t love it.
It might be because of me, I am not a big fan from overly dramatic romance but compared to Spark –which rocked my world – it wasn’t as great. I still love and adore Eric. I think Velaney got the best man ever and you won’t be disappointed about the ending; it has a super sweet HEA :)!!
